This is a dairy entry of what it would be like for a person back then:
Dear dairy
Today is the beginning of the Diwali festival. We are just finishing cleaning and sweeping the house and hanging up the lights. The rangoli patter is just outside by our doorstep lit up by one of the many candles. Everyone is happy and joyful and ready for the new year. I hear talking outside and cheering of the kids. I smell the smoke of the candles and also the candle scent of a lotus flower. I see colourful lamps and candles outside a rangoli pattern on most peoples doorsteps, a clean house, and the sweets set out on the table. I taste the delicious sweets of the candy and savoury foods. I feel the candy in my hand and my feet on the ground and i feel great today is one of the best holidays ever.
